Flooring Care & Maintenance
You chose the right floor; now let’s make sure it stays looking like it.
From waterproof SPC to custom hardwood, each flooring type has its own rhythm when it comes to cleaning, care, and long-term maintenance.
This guide gives you straight-up, easy-to-follow tips to help your floors stay beautiful, durable, and damage-free, without turning your life into a full-time cleaning gig.
Hardwood & Engineered Hardwood
Looks expensive…because it is. Treat it accordingly.
Hardwood is timeless, but it does need a little TLC to stay in prime condition.
Do:
- Sweep or dry mop regularly to prevent surface scratches
- Use a damp (not soaking) microfiber mop for cleaning
- Clean spills immediately—moisture is hardwood’s enemy
- Use rugs or pads in high-traffic areas and under furniture
- Maintain indoor humidity between 35%–55% to prevent warping
Don’t:
- Use steam mops, vinegar, or harsh chemicals
- Let standing water sit on the surface
- Drag heavy furniture without felt protectors
Bonus Tip: Recoat or refinish every few years if needed—it brings the floor back to life without a full replacement.
WPC & SPC Flooring
Waterproof warriors—but still worth protecting.
Both WPC and SPC are made to take a beating, but a little routine maintenance goes a long way in keeping them looking fresh.
Do:
- Sweep or vacuum regularly (just skip the beater bar)
- Damp mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner
- Use entry mats to trap dirt and grit
- Clean up spills (even though they’re waterproof—don't push your luck)
Don’t:
- Use steam mops—heat and pressure can break down the wear layer
- Use abrasive scrub pads or wax-based products
Pro Tip: SPC is tougher and more rigid. WPC is softer and more forgiving. Treat them both with respect and they’ll stick around for the long haul.
Laminate Flooring
Budget-friendly, but still deserves some care.
Laminate has come a long way—but it still doesn’t love water or neglect.
Do:
- Dry mop or vacuum regularly
- Use laminate-safe floor cleaner (spray it on the mop, not directly on the floor)
- Wipe up spills quickly
- Use protective pads under furniture
Don’t:
- Soak the floor when cleaning
- Use abrasive or oil-based cleaners
- Steam clean—moisture + heat = swelling
Quick Fix: Got minor scratches? Laminate touch-up kits exist and they’re surprisingly effective.
General Flooring Protection Tips (Applies to All Types)
- Use mats at entrances—less grit, less scratching
- Add felt pads under furniture legs
- Trim pet nails regularly
- Don’t drag furniture or appliances
- Rotate rugs and furniture to avoid uneven wear
- Clean with purpose—not panic
